Heal Our Land

July 1st is Canada’s birthday. As we celebrate the values and beliefs on which our Forefather’s built our country, can we truly say we are still there? I honestly don’t think so. I wonder how our First Fathers would react to see how far we, as a country, have departed from the belief in God and the Bible as this country’s foundation. One of the Founding Fathers moved that a motion be passed to have this Scripture inscribed on the front of the Peace Tower. " He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the river to the ends of the earth" (Psalm 72:8).

           Long before the children of Israel entered the Promised Land, while still in the wilderness, God gave Moses the 10 Commandments, with the condition that if the children of Israel really loved God, they would keep His commandments. Didn’t Jesus say something to the same effect to His disciples?             

We are like the children of Israel. As long as they had a Godly leader, they kept God’s commandments and walked in His ways. But when that Judge or King died, the children of Israel went back to doing evil in the sight of the Lord. Over the past century, this nation has very slowly turned its face away from God. During my lifetime I remember when we used to say the Lord’s Prayer in school.            

            We need the Lord to send a revival to our land. First, we need Christians to turn back to their first love. “Nevertheless, I have this against you, that you have left your first love.” (Revelation 2:4). Second, there are countless of thousands of people who do not know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour.        

            The Lord promises to heal our land, if we as His people will humble ourselves and pray. “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14). History has proven this to be true.

            The Azusa Street revival first broke out in California in 1906. Not only did this move of God change lives, its leaders surrendered themselves freshly to God in Los Angeles. [Information found online].

            In 1907, the Azusa Street revival started in Toronto, Ontario. A couple who were in charge of a building on Queen Street began to pray for a demonstration of God’s power in Canada. A revival started and released God’s power among those who gathered there regularly.  There were all day prayer meetings. Not only did this move of God change lives, but people experienced miracles and many were completely healed! They were also filled with Holy Spirit and spoke in tongues. There were also demons being cast out of people and other manifestations of Holy Spirit’s power. This revival was started with two people praying, and lasted five months. [Information found online].

                This nation needs a fresh outpouring of God’s power today. Will you be one to start praying for God to pour out His power again? Will you pray for our Prime Minister and all our Leaders in Parliament and across this nation that they will surrender their lives to Jesus Christ? It will only be then that we will see righteous policies passed. We need laws against ABORTION and MAID (Medical Assistance in Dying). We also need many other unrighteous laws changed.

            In 1981, 100 Huntley Street hosted “Salute to Canada” from 25 cities in Canada from coast to coast. David Mainse and the TV crew broadcasted live during the month of June. The Lord gave me a poem for Canada. I didn’t know if I would be going to any city to present my poem to David.

 The night before “Salute to Canada” was to be in Ottawa, My friend Irene and I took the midnight bus to Ottawa. David read my poem on the air, while kneeling beside my wheelchair.

Salvation to Canada

May we as Christians pray

Seek His face, and then obey

God has promised to hear

To forgive us and heal our land

As we upon His word firmly stand.

To our knees may we be sent

From sin and wickedness to repent

O Lord hear our cry

As we upon God rely

Baptize us with the Holy Ghost and fire

For this is our heart’s greatest desire.

May we turn from that which is wrong

He will give us a brand-new song

As we seek to honor His Son

Let us in unity become One

May for this we fervently pray

As many travel along the way.

May we turn from that which is wrong

I encourage you to pray for this great country of ours. We can see the beauty entrusted to us. However, we have fallen short of honouring the One who has blessed us so abundantly. May we turn from our wicked ways and humble ourselves and pray. Then the Lord has promised to hear from heaven and HEAL OUR LAND.
